Food was tremendously awesome, along with the service.. Everything from the cocktails into the bread and salad finishing with the pork chop, phenomenal. The only disappointment, the inconsistency with the menu here on Yelp and in the restaurant. Prices are significantly higher (30%)at the restaurant on all of the items from the Chopped Salad to the steaks. That said, I mentioned this to bartender Anna (you're going to want to see her..) and she accommodated the prices advertised here on Yelp. Clean this snafu up and there is no question this is one of the top spots in Fort Wayne. I'll be checking this location and others out!

Have been here a few times. Always anticipate more than what is delivered. The food is good, no question, but not outstanding. I would not compare it to the really great Chicago or New York steakhouses. The wine selection is truly good, and wait staff very attentive. However, the menu shows a timidness and insecurity. Great restaurants can afford to take chances, and can offer more than just great steak.

ugh, eddie merlots. over rated! ive been here a few times w/family and it just isnt that great! food is incredibly overpriced (same/sometimes more than prices at steakhouses in chicago) and really, just okay. im a big fan of a delicious steak and this just didnt fit the bill. it definitely wasnt inedible by any means, but just not the best steak ive ever had...and to be honest, i felt a bit rushed and like i was being condescended to. good wine list, but eddie merlots definitely wouldnt be my go-to steakhouse in fort wayne.

The food and service here were excellent but it should be for the money you spend. We went on a Tuesday so it wasn't too busy. They sat us at a round table but the table was right next to the main walkway to get to the bar area. I don't think this table should have even been here. It just made me uncomfortable because there were different servers walking close by constantly. The chairs need replaced, they were comfortable at first because you just sank down into them, but after awhile I felt like I needed a booster seat. Apparently the staff are aware of this, they gave us stiff hard covered boards to go on top of the chair cushions. The extra boards helped. Ask for them if you feel like you are too low in the seat or if your back starts hurting (like mine did). For an appetizer we ordered crab cakes of course, they were large. They were good but nothing phenomenal. I ordered lobster bisque and the New Orleans mixed grill. The lobster bisque had large chunks of lobster in it , which was awesome. The salad that came with the meal was fresh. My main dish was smaller than what I expected it to be, maybe it wasn't such a great after all. I would have paid extra to have a larger portion. The mixed grill had two shrimp, a small filet, and sausage. I ordered it because I wanted to try a variety of items from the menu and I had a hard time deciding what to get. My boyfriend ordered the sea bass, I tried some of it and it was really tasty . We had dessert, bananas foster. It was a table side show, they bring out the ingredients and make it at the table. I actually ate some dessert and it was good, simple, but sometimes that's all that is needed.

So much hype about this restaurant, gave in & tried it. Nice atmosphere, chairs sit extremely low to the floor. Service is top notch, I do believe this is the reason for return visits because the food left me with more to be desired. Maybe I didn't order an entree that gave the cooks a chance to wow me. Filet was cooked as requested, but could get that anywhere. Will I return? Yes, for a cocktail & small plate in the bar area only.

Excellent dining experience. The food is top notch. The service is always exceptional. Try the soups. The portions are large so we usually get several dishes to share. They run occasional specials several times a year. Highly recommend.

Probably my favorite upscale establishment in the Ft. Wayne area. Service is always attentive. Food is always timely and well prepared. The aesthetic and ambiance is right up my alley. Laid back, yet classy lounge. Worth every penny, everytime.

Enjoyed a recent dinner experience here. Liked my NY strip steak and appetizers including Ahi Tuna won tons. Especially liked my Romaine Waldorf salad. The lounge is a more fun, laidback atmosphere. Service was a little slow on a recent night which was unusual.

This place is one of the reasons I fold up two crisp, fifty-dollar bills. Including a couple of crisp twenty-dollar bills. Hidden in my wallet. With about two hundred more, on my money clip. This gives me the look of confidence; As I go to. One of the best steakhouses in Allen County. I am not normally a fan of chain restaurants, but there is always an exception. They have an excellent menu and atmosphere if you are looking for the upscale dining experience (at least my experience there:). In my case, the standout menu selection was the Calamari appetizer, Fillet Mignon, and most of the dessert menu (especially the Bananas Foster for 2 prepared table side, and the huge piece of Red Velvet cake). The service was among the best I have had anywhere - from Seattle to Florida... How can I compare to a hick size town? The only way I can describe it! The appetizer was presented proudly professionally and only second to the taste. I had the fillet mignon-bone in - exceptional. The sides are similar to Morton's, Ruth Chris's in Indianapolis. I believe they did try to copy these institutions, rather than reinvent what already works. They have done a fine job in my opinion. At my age I am tired of ordering steaks (that I could cook better at home). Or wanting to go in the back and show the (dare I say) chief how to prepare a steak. Or even going to a butcher shop and picking up a desert on the way home. Here you will not think about doing this. They made everyone feel as though they were the only customer's in the restaurant. This gave me a reason to go again!

Five for food. Four for service. The salads and filet mignon steaks were delicious. Beautiful presentation of food. Lovely atmosphere inside. Sides do not come with your steak, so be prepared for a hefty bill. I would definitely come back. Fort Wayne needs more fine dining establishments such as this one!

I was in Fort Wayne on business and felt like having a good steak, and Eddie Merlot's was recommended to me by a local. Not a bad recommendation at all. Must be a popluar place, because even though it was a Wednesday night, it was packed, and pretty loud. I sat at the bar since I was dining alone. The service by the bar staff was very good. I had the carpaccio to start, and it was well-prepared. The steak I had, an 8 ounce filet, was cooked correctly and was of good quality beef. I had parmesan truffle fries, which were pretty darned good. The wine list was quite good. A nice "by the glass" selection. I don't get some people complaining about the prices. The 8 ounce filet set me back about $33, which was about normal for most upscale steak houses. All the prices seemed in line with steak houses. The noise in the bar was a little distracting, but the dining rooms seemed much better, and I suspect you could have a nice, quiet dinner in those areas. One thing struck me while I was there: the ubiquity of the "upscale steakhouse crowd." I swear, I have been in steakhouses from New York City to Seattle and all places in between, and it amuses me how I always see the same motley crew at upscale steakhouses, particularly in the bar. You have guys like me, the business traveler, looking whip assed and tired. You have the young couples trying awkwardly to have a romantic evening, even though they really don't know how to do it. You have the "Steakhouse bar hottie": a woman somewhat past her prime with a big ol' fake decolletage and wearing enough makeup to cement bricks together. This woman is often accompanied by the "Sales Maven": a man in his late 50's, with a reptilian-like tan, big, white, capped choppers in his mouth, and, of course, his hair is always absolutely perfect. He normally is wearing gold nugget jewelry that resemble gilded dog turds. The Maven and the Hottie are always loud, loud, loud. Fort Wayne's Eddie Merlot's had the full cast of characters. Not only was this amusing, it was sort of comforting. Some things are the same all over.

Wonderful food and service! Ive been here 4 times now and its been consistently great! The fillet bone-in or not is fantastic and is always a good choice, I get mine rare and they get it perfect. The lobster mac n' cheese is the best anywhere. The carrot cake is also amazing. The only things that we have had that don't live up to the rest are the tomahawk steak, very fancy and cool looking but the taste is just OK and its not very tender, we did try it twice just in case the first time was a fluke. I had the Dover Sole table-side last time and it really didn't seem like anything special. Our server, Anesta was top notch and we will try and get her every time we go. Hopefully see you soon!

The background music is overbearing and obnoxious. I concur with the price issue. BUT it get one on one or the banquet room its slightly bis ft wayne. This place is an enigmaetter. I just don't understand the prices,. I really can't say that iti s worth it. the food was good for about 30% less. I doubt I would repeat unless it was on a business expense(boss would fire me for the kind of money though)

I had an incredible steak. It is one of the best places I've eaten in Fort Wayne.

Great service and very good food, but very pricey. The waiter greeted us by name and was very knowledgable about the menu. Portions, as they are at most restaurants, were huge. My wonderful spinach salad could have easily fed two or even three. The tasty beef carpaccio appetizer was oversized as well. My perfectly cooked ahi tuna was also more than I could eat. My wife's filet was cooked properly at rare/medium rare. The lyonnaise potatoes were the only unimpressive item. We had two beers apiece (no dessert or coffee) and walked out with a $140 tab including a 20 percent tip. If they would cut portion size and price I would be willing to return more frequently as I'm sure others would as well. The 4 stars are more about food quality, ambience and service than value.

On a recent trip to see family, we had the distinct pleasure of visiting Eddie Merlot's. Wonderful ambiance, extensive wine list, filet mignon that melts away in your mouth- what a divine meal! We don't get out much, so to have a date night that surpassed our expectations was a true gift. P.S. The Bananas Foster- Paradise regained.

  • Grisha Lindsey T.

Lindsey has eaten at Eddie Merlot's and Chop's Wine Bar many, many times with her family. Eddie Merlot's really is the place to go for a great steak, garlic mashed potatoes, and vegetables. Also, she remembers Eddie's had the Chianti her and her family love. Chop's in comparison, is better for people looking for unique food combinations. Lindsey would never choose to go to Chop's for steak instead of Eddie Merlot's. The only weakness at Eddie Merlot's is the dessert menu. Chop's does a better job with desserts overall.

As Eddie Merlot has a distinct reputation in Fort Wayne; as a recent resident here I knew I had to try it before I'm on the move again... No better way to test the waters than when my hubby had come to visit me... We had gone there as a nice upscale date as we hadnt seen each other for quite some time and the dinner experience was the best date we've been on since we started dating! From the environment to our hostess; we had a wonderful time! Our hostess was on the ball! As the designated driver i didnt drink any alcohol myself; but my hubby did enjoy browsing the extensive alcohol menu and chose a cocktail which he loved... the crabcake appetizer is simply amazing and our dinner we had gotten the Steak Diane; a special for two! and it was divine! final preparations being table side.. the show was exquisite! Both of us like our steak on the more well done side and Eddie Merlot's hit the nail on the head... the first time i've ordered a medium-well done steak and still have it seem to melt in my mouth! A MUST GO in fort wayne... worth the price!

So happy to finally eat here! Last minute dinner plans, after being rudely turned away from Chops...had no problem getting into Eddie's without reservations. Strip Steak and Salmon were great, bar music awesome. Can't wait to get back.

I will never return. They sat us in the lounge when we went there to eat entrees not burgers and flatbreads. Service was horrendous. The waiter filled up my boyfriends water then didn't fill my empty glass. I found the knob of the lettuce in my Caesar salad. They timed the dinner terribly. We ordered an appetizer then it took 20 minutes to get out salad. Not one minute after getting our salad out entrees came out. They went and put our entrees under the warmer over cooking my expensive steak. Five minutes later not half way through our salads the waiter brought out our entrees knowing full well if he didn't our food would be over cooked. My steak was bland and could have gotten better service at McDonalds. I complained to the manager and he gave us $50 in gift cards. Guarantee I will never return to that establishment. Get a better wait staff and learn how to cook and season a steak where it's worth the outrageous prices you charge.

I was in Ft Wayne on Business and was looking for a nice dinner. I found Eddie Merlot's on Opentable and decided to give it a try. I really had no complaints, the food and service were all very good, but it was very expensive even by San Francisco (my home town) standards. The wine list especially was at the very top end of what you should spend at a restaurant. Lots of good choices, but very pricey. If you ever find yourself in Ft Wayne, I would highly recommend Chops (see that review) over Eddie Merlot's.

I agree with David R's review, in that I was surprised about the prices at this place. The food was good, the service was good, and the wine list was phenomenal; but I do think they were a bit expense for the locale. If you are looking for a higher-end place for a decent meal in Ft. Wayne, then this is the place. If you are looking for the best wine and drink selection in Ft. Wayne, then this is definitely you're place.

This place was great! We traveled to a basketball tournament in FT Wayne and were looking for a killer steak. In Ft Wayne this is the place. Food was terrific. Steak was perfect - prime cut. Great calamari too. Wine list is small but nice (3 or 4 nice Brunello's. I highly recommend it. Service was fine, not great, but no terrible either.

Been to the Fort Wayne location not because of the steaks, but I really wanted to spoil myself and indeed I did. I ordered the smoked salmon with caviar. Normally I don't care for caviar but when paired with the salmon it taste real good. Had lobster with drawn butter. And for dessert (the reason i went) Bananas foster prepared table side. delish. It is expensive, but I thought it was well worth it to have one meal that really was elegant.

Being a fan of Ruth's Chris and Morton's, I was excited when Eddie Merlot's opened in Fort Wayne, and was hoping this could be my "go to" steak place in the area. Alas, it just does not quite measure up. The prices are as high as any of the big city places, but the quality is not quite there. It is solid, but not spectacular. I would recommend the blue-cheese chips appetizer if you go and would also stick with the steak over the seafood. Most of the desserts are good as well.

First off the food here was excellent. Mac and Cheese dry and not that good, but everything else was perfect. Short rib was delicious and the sauce that came with it was fantastic. Out server was super kind and very helpful. Service was a touch slow but I expect that in a fine dinning restaurant. It's probably stating the obvious but this place is super expensive, 1 app 2 entrees/w side and two cocktails came to $127. So just be ready for that.

Eddie Merlots is consistently good. On this occasion we decided to eat in the lounge area and keep dinner low key with burgers and a little March Madness. Our server was attentive, but did not rush our dinner. She gave us plenty of time to enjoy ourselves between courses and was very knowledgeable in regards to the menu and food preparation. My husband and I both loved our burgers. They were juicy and flavorful and generous. We had a side of truffle fries which were also fantastic. Our libations were delicious.

Fine dining experience but pricey. This was our first time at Eddie Merlots. The menu is overwhelming at first. Many tasty sounding choices. Our server provided several good suggestions. I decided to begin with a Caesar salad, and a New York strip for the main course ordered medium rare. The salad was average tasting as Caesar salads go. The steak also was average to me. I noted that it also arrived barely pink, which to me is overdone. My wife had the French onion soup followed by a 7 oz filet. The soup was the best she ever had (her words) and the filet was cooked medium rare as ordered. It was melt in your mouth delicious. Our side was eddies potatoes which I can only describe as mediocre tasting. Our desert was a complimentary creme brûlée (offered for birthdays). It was nicely presented with fresh raspberries and was delightful. Our cappuccino coffee with desert was also excellent. Service was very attentive and very delightful. All around it was a nice dining experience for a special celebration. Unfortunately I feel ft Wayne has better alternatives to offer for elegant dining experiences with more reasonable meal pricing. We probably would pass on Eddie Merlots in the future.

Excellent service and wonderful food add to the upscale atmosphere. A great place to celebrate something or just a special evening. Known for their steaks and seafood. Get the cookies for dessert! The are warm, amazing and fun. :)

This was literally the greatest meal I've ever had in my entire life. The filet was...unreal. The family-style sides were incredible too. We had (in order of how much I enjoyed them) brussel sprouts, sweet potato casserole, twice baked potato, asparagus, hashbrowns, broccoli. The service was really great, as to be expected at such a nice place. Anna, the bartender, was legit. If you have the opportunity, go.

Okay, so, if you're going to go here - make it a special occasion, and a rare treat. This is not just some steakhouse to go drink two fingers of scotch and act like you know something about something. It's a place you go to PROVE you know something about something. Try the Ahi tuna wonton appetizer, order a modern cocktail, put that Wagyu beef across your lips (it melts in your mouth) and propose marriage to your future wife. If there is any a place to do that, this is it. Then, return on your silver and golden anniversaries. Food quality and service is absolutely on point. The waitstaff actually enjoys working here, because they know how special it is for their guests. This is a place people go to truly celebrate their lives. Okay, so it's a bit pricey. And the decor isn't very tasteful (saturated flesh tones, like eating in a 90's porn flick with contrasting tan lines). But the food, and the service more than make up for these negligibly small detriments.

Good ambiance, jazz music, exclusive feel compared to Fridays. Food was decent. Had seared scallops and salmon. Bonefish Grill (not in FW) is comparable. Wish there was a Fogo de Chao or Bonefish or some others like it here, but can't expect much from Fort Wayne.

After I posted the statement below today, I received a gracious handwritten note and two generous gift certificates from the manager in the mail later in the day. I'm very much looking forward to giving Eddie Merlot's another chance. I will update my rating after my next visit. ------- Within an hour after I posted my review, the manager responded. I took up his offer to call him within another couple of hours. He was apologetic and offered gift certificates. He also offered to personally oversee our next reservation. So over a week has passed. Nothing. Clearly, this restaurant has a problem with follow through. If you want to gamble, spend a lot of money and hope that you receive commensurate service, then be my guest. But for some reason we are losing the bet.

The food was great. We took our client out there and he was delighted with the food and atmosphere. They loose one start because of the seating they provided. It felt like I was in the way of every person entering the room. There were plenty of other seats around and I just don't understand why would they make us sit at such an awkward spot.
